What Chrome does¶

Chrome supports analyst workflow support. In this guide, you will use it to configure a dedicated analyst browser profile and document evidence-safe browsing boundaries. The procedure and screenshots provide the practical reference; the surrounding context explains what to record and how to judge the result.

Evidence and safety
Keep original, working, and derived material separate. Treat links, archives, and files as untrusted when appropriate. Record the input identifier, tool version, relevant commands or settings, time and time zone, output location, and any errors or limitations as you work.

How the labs complement this guide
The Interactive Lab is a safe browser simulation for practising the workflow and validation logic. The Full Lab is an independent exercise for an isolated, authorised environment. Confirm the installed tool version and expected output before relying on either exercise in a real case.
Accessing Chrome in SUSA¶
Chrome is useful for testing DFIR tools that analyse Chrome artefacts. Download Chrome.
Use a dedicated training profile so generated history, downloads, cookies and cache remain separate from personal browsing. Record the browser version and profile path when creating known test activity for later comparison.
Run the downloaded executable to install Chrome. When prompted by User Account Control, select Yes.
The installation process begins.
After installation is complete, Chrome opens automatically.
In the start menu, right-click Google Chrome and select Pin to taskbar.
