What USB Detective does¶

USB Detective supports Registry analysis. In this guide, you will use it to identify a training USB device and corroborate user and system context. The procedure and screenshots provide the practical reference; the surrounding context explains what to record and how to judge the result.

Evidence and safety
Never edit source hives. Keep user SID, control-set, and transaction-log context attached. Record the input identifier, tool version, relevant commands or settings, time and time zone, output location, and any errors or limitations as you work.

Accessing USB Detective in SUSA¶
USB Detective is an application for identifying, investigating, and reporting on USB storage devices that have been connected to a Windows system.
Download the USB Detective Community Edition.
Complete the registration form. The download link will be sent to the provided email address.
Extract the downloaded zip archive to C:\Tools\USB-Detective. Double-click USB Detective to verify that it runs without an error. When prompted by User Account Control, select Yes.
