What FavoritesView does

Guided SUSA tool journey

FavoritesView supports browser forensics. In this guide, you will use it to identify a relevant favourite and distinguish creation data from later use. The procedure and screenshots provide the practical reference; the surrounding context explains what to record and how to judge the result.

Tool guide at a glance

Investigation task

Identify a relevant favourite and distinguish creation data from later use.

Starting material

A copied training browser profile or supplied browser artefact set.

Successful outcome

A browser observation linked to profile, source artefact, time context, and corroborating evidence.

Evidence and safety

Use copied profiles. Do not open recovered links or downloads on the analyst workstation. Record the input identifier, tool version, relevant commands or settings, time and time zone, output location, and any errors or limitations as you work.

How the labs complement this guide

The Interactive Lab is a safe browser simulation for practising the workflow and validation logic. The Full Lab is an independent exercise for an isolated, authorised environment. Confirm the installed tool version and expected output before relying on either exercise in a real case.

Accessing FavoritesView in SUSA

FavoritesView displays Internet Explorer favourites and supported Mozilla-family bookmarks in one view.

Use a copied user profile where possible and record its source. A bookmark shows that a URL was saved in that profile; it does not by itself show when or whether the page was visited, so correlate it with browser history, cache and other activity records.
